Become a KH Hair Apprentice
Apprenticeship opportunities highlighted in new recruitment video from KH Hair
KH Hair has announced the launch of a new recruitment video aimed at attracting more talent to the industry. The four minute film features some of KH Hair’s current apprentices highlighting their training and in-salon experiences and aspirations for their future careers.
3rd year apprentice, Mollie Hovell, who appears in the video, says she was treated like an adult from day one of her course. “We receive fantastic training from KH Hair’s Creative and Colour Teams which is really exciting.” she says. “It’s hard work and the standards are very high but it’s also great fun. Everyone is so supportive and I really do feel like I’m part of one big family.”
KH Hair Group’s joint managing directors, Darren Messias and Tim Fee, say the video was produced because it is getting more difficult each year to recruit apprentices. “We feel that school leavers and their parents are not being made fully aware of the opportunities apprenticeships can offer and the differences between them and a college-only education.” Darren explains. “We believe it’s getting harder to attract people to the industry because, traditionally, we haven’t shouted about ourselves enough.
“Hairdressing isn’t just a ‘job’ and, as an industry, we need to be more proactive in going into schools to talk about apprenticeships and explain the varied and rewarding career paths that are available in a company such as ours.”
The award-winning Academy is synonymous with the provision of exceptional and forward-thinking training and its apprenticeship programme aims to take raw talent from across the County and help train and develop young people for a successful career in hairdressing. The Group recently reached a milestone 70 years of delivering apprenticeships to more than 2,000 young people across the East Midlands.
Over the two-year apprenticeship (with a third ‘finishing’ year option available too) KH Hair trainees learn how to deliver first-class customer service and front of house duties; professional development; effective team work and how to take responsibility and ownership of their careers as well first-class hairdressing skills. They also get the chance to attend shows, exhibitions and enter competitions to enhance their learning. Maths and English essentials are also delivered with the help of a qualified school teacher to assist trainees who may need additional help with basic numeracy and literacy skills.
“The beauty of the video is that it’s an easy and effective way to highlight the benefits of an apprenticeship in a format that is simple to use on all digital platforms and social media so we can reach the right people. adds Darren. “Viewers can instantly see the enthusiasm and dedication of our trainees and, hopefully, this will encourage them to consider a career in this exciting industry.”
The Academy achieves incredibly high successes year-on-year gaining 75-100 per cent pass rate and has been awarded top marks of 100 per cent by funding partners, Central Training Group – the only Academy to achieve this.
KH Hair is now recruiting for its next intake of apprentices for July 2019.
